Can you provide us with some insights into your background, including where you grew up and your current base?
It's a pleasure to share a glimpse of my life with you. I was born in the serene and vibrant landscapes of northern Thailand, a place that holds a special place in my heart. However, destiny had a different path in store for me, guiding me towards a new home in Australia. In 1991, when I was just a wide-eyed child of six, my mother and I embarked on a journey that would forever shape my identity and enrich my experiences.
Australia, with its diverse culture and breathtaking beauty, became my New Haven. We settled in Victoria, a state known for its captivating landscapes and warm-hearted residents. As I grew up, I found myself forging deep connections with the people and the land that surrounded me. Victoria became more than just a geographical location; it became my sanctuary, a place I am privileged to call home.
Victoria has been my canvas, allowing me to paint my dreams and aspirations. It has nurtured my growth, offering a plethora of opportunities for learning and personal development. I have had the privilege of receiving a quality education, connecting with inspiring mentors, and engaging in a multitude of enriching experiences that have shaped the person I am today.
How has your geographical background, spanning both northern Thailand and Melbourne, influenced your work?
The geographical background of my life, encompassing northern Thailand and Melbourne, has profoundly influenced my work and perspective. Growing up in Thailand instilled in me an appreciation for nature, diverse perspectives, and community values, shaping my creative process and approach to problem-solving. The warmth and kindness of the Thai people fostered empathy and inclusivity in my interactions, both personally and professionally. Similarly, living in multicultural Melbourne expanded my horizons, emphasizing diversity and a global mindset in my creative output. The natural beauty of Melbourne inspired my aesthetic sensibilities and storytelling abilities. Overall, these experiences have shaped my work and allowed me to positively impact others' lives.
Can you tell us about your business from a design perspective, focusing on your speciality or signature style?
I embrace a minimalist, timeless, and transitional aesthetic, which reflects my signature style. My design philosophy revolves around slow living and creating spaces that evoke calm and balance. I appreciate the power of small details and constantly seek to improve. I enjoy blending styles, textures, and colors to achieve captivating spaces while remaining open to new experiences. Attention to detail is crucial, as it enhances the overall design and practicality. With humility, I acknowledge there is always more to learn and explore in design. I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion and create beautiful, functional spaces.
What are some of the biggest influences on your interior design work, and how do the pieces you source pay tribute to the past and tell the story of your journey?
As an interior stylist, I draw inspiration from nature and cultural heritage. The beauty of organic forms, colors, and textures in the natural world influences my designs. I incorporate natural materials, earthy tones, and elements of the outdoors into indoor spaces. Cultural traditions, craftsmanship, and architectural styles inspire me, honoring the past and those who came before us. I seek out unique, meaningful pieces that tell a story, such as vintage or antique items. Each item carries its own history, contributing to the narrative of my journey as a designer. By combining elements from different eras and cultures, I create spaces that reflect my experiences and evoke a sense of connection to the world.
Could you share with us the types of materials you adore sourcing and combining and the reasoning behind this?
I appreciate and enjoy combining various materials to create captivating spaces. Here are some materials I adore:
Natural Materials: Wood, stone, linen, and jute bring warmth, authenticity, and grounding to a space. They connect us to nature, age gracefully, and create an organic atmosphere.
Textiles: Soft linens, plush velvets, and woven fabrics add texture and visual interest. They enhance comfort and create a tactile experience, allowing for layers of richness and a cozy ambiance.
Metals: Stainless steel, brass, and iron bring sophistication and contrast when paired with natural materials. They add glamour, reflectivity, and visual intrigue through fixtures, accents, or statement pieces.
Reclaimed and Vintage Materials: Sourcing and repurposing reclaimed wood, architectural elements, and vintage furniture infuse a space with charm, character, and sustainability. It reflects nostalgia and individuality while promoting eco-friendly design.
I combine these materials to create balanced and visually intriguing spaces. Each material contributes unique qualities, resulting in a layered, inviting, and authentic design that honors timeless and sustainable principles.
Tell us more about the new collection.
The vision behind this exquisite design was to establish a profound connection with the captivating allure of old-world architecture, allowing us to appreciate the remarkable evolution of design in all its facets. It is an intricate fusion of architectural grandeur and interior design finesse.
The deliberate incorporation of arched structures and flowing contours was intended to elicit a profound emotional response from the inhabitants. Humans have an inherent affinity for circular shapes, as they are often associated with feelings of joy and contentment. It is through this intentional design choice that we aim to create spaces that evoke a sense of happiness and tranquility.
Moreover, my inspiration for this project stems from a desire to craft designs with enduring intentions. I strive to create a bespoke piece that will be cherished and seamlessly integrated into homes for generations to come. The ability to pass down these cherished pieces from one generation to another was a crucial factor in the creation of this design.
In terms of material selection, I collaborated closely with Hegi to ensure a harmonious blend of consistency and reliability, harkening back to centuries of proven craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from the resilience of old-world architecture, we naturally gravitated towards the timeless elegance of brass, stone, and wood.
In summary, this design encapsulates the captivating charm of the old world, seamlessly adaptable to any era or architectural style. It invites us to forge lasting memories within our homes and ensures a design legacy that will endure for generations. It is an embodiment of strength, happiness, and timeless beauty, merging seamlessly to create spaces that transcend time itself.
