Based in Melbourne, Australia,  Zenn Design offers unrivalled quality upholstery

and window furnishing services. Hannah Goldberg, founder of Zenn Design, is always up for a design challenge, her motto is ‘if you can imagine it, we can create it!’  When not consulting with clients, you will find Hannah working on new designs, in her new Zenn Design Showroom/ Design Studio and immersed in family life, balancing her role as a mother.

Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do?

I'm Hannah, Founder and Creative director at Zenn Design, and mama to two adorable little girls. My life is all about balancing being a young hands-on mum whilst taking my business to the next level. I'm passionate about interiors – fabrics, furniture and committed to supporting Australian-made.

At Zenn Design we bring to life creativity and innovation through quality craftsmanship creating pieces for spaces that you’ll love to live in. We pride ourselves on delivering quality upholstery and window furnishing services like no other, responding to our clients’ needs by producing timeless pieces they love.

Our home furnishings are designed, manufactured and built in our Melbourne workshop, with locally sourced materials that are ethical and traceable. We source only the best materials and carry through our meticulous standards to our product innovation and customer service delivery.

Our skilled artisans and craftspeople draw on a wealth of industry experience to deliver a new standard of excellence, using traditional furniture-making methods and caring deeply about each and every piece we produce. At every stage, we listen to our customers’ needs and tailor our services to perfectly fit their unique requirements.

What made you start Zenn Design?

In short, after working with my husband in his family’s window furnishing business, we found a niche in the market for locally made, high quality, bespoke soft furnishings and custom upholstered pieces. Together with a passion for Australian made, great design and high-quality fabrics, plus with our extensive textile and industry knowledge, Zenn Design was born.

What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome?

We've had our fair share; the last two years have been particularly challenging, as it has for so many, however timber shortages, shipping delays and keeping up with demand has certainly kept us on our toes.

Each challenge is a learning curve which, on reflection, has been vital to assisting us in growing and evolving to the next stage of our business.

Could you tell us what is your favourite bedhead design, and why?

Argh… this is a hard one as I have so many favourites. Each time we've completed a design in a different or more unique fabric, I fall in love with it all over again. When I spend my days at the workshop, I tend to have so many favourites each day, but if I had to name one, I think our Krystal Upholstered Bed Design is PERFECTION. With gentle soft rounded bedhead corners and a matching curvaceous bed frame design, Krystal is modern, luxurious and sophisticated.

The festival season is just around the corner, why do you think this collaborative giveaway is so special?

We love giving back and inspiring others to live in spaces that bring joy and calm. We have long admired Hegi so this collaboration is a wonderful way for us to share space and give someone the opportunity to win a custom designed Australian made piece of furniture in time for the Festive season.

What are you doing over the Christmas season, do you have any cultural rituals?

We hope to travel interstate with our children and spend quality time together creating memories over their summer break, as well recharging and spending a couple of weeks away from work, so we can return refreshed for the New Year.

What wisdom would you share with your younger self?

Be unapologetically you, believe in yourself, always trust your gut, and don't let others’ opinions of you get in the way of your goals.

Finally, if Hegi would be a drink, what would it be?

An unforgettable, warm, punchy, and sculptural cocktail.
