INTERVIEW WITH KERRIE-ANN JONES

Based in the bayside suburb in Southern Sydney, Kerrie-Ann Jones is passionate about styling and bringing together visions and dreams for her clients. When she’s not busy styling or designing a home, you'll find Kerrie-Ann recording her famous podcast, House of Style, where she talks all things style and trends.

Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do?

My most important job is being a Mum to my two children and wife to my hubby. Everything I do is for my family. Second to that, I’m passionate about creating beautiful interiors. I’m a freelance style director and have a variety of clients including magazines, furniture and homewares brands, interior designers, architects and private clients. I use a curated and artistic approach when creating an interior.

What is your favourite part of your work?

The creative challenge. I love pushing myself creatively, always exploring new ways of conceptualising a space.

As a interior designer and stylist, what are the biggest challenges you see homeowners face?

Ensuring furniture, homewares and anything purchased for the home are ethical and sustainable. It’s difficult to navigate this while fast fashion products are rife. It’s easy to get led down the path of trend pieces that are cheap, but if we can make a conscious effort to invest in quality and Australian made products that are sustainable, this will have a big impact for the future.

With global conversations around climate change, and 'sustainability' becoming such a huge buzz word, especially in the fashion and accessories industry, what changes have you seen in the way your customers purchase design pieces?

Clients are investing in pieces that will last for years to come and are locally made to support Australian makers. People are looking for quality, not fast fashion. We’re all becoming increasingly aware of the impact our choices are having on the environment and this has had a knock-on effect with the way we purchase design pieces.

When you first saw the Urania collection, what were your thoughts? Which is your favourite piece? What do you love most about it?

I love the Waldo chair. It’s such a playful shape and a real showstopper! I haven’t seen anything like it, and I’m all about original design. It’s exciting to see a fun, bold and original collection of furniture.

What do you think our customers will love most about the collection?

The shapes! They are so playful yet sophisticated.

What tips would you share on how to style the new designs?

Each piece from the new collection is a ‘hero’ piece. They are that one piece of furniture that commands the attention in the room, the showstopper!  So allow it to have that moment and don’t have other competing elements. Less is more!
