Industrial Designer Graduate
HEGI
Location: Illawarra / South Coast
Company: Hegi
Availability: 1st of February
This is not a normal design job.
HEGI is a design house creating collectible functional art.
Our pieces live between furniture, fashion, and architecture.
They are sculptural, emotional, and made in limited editions — never mass-produced.
Each object begins with a question.
Each collection carries a narrative.
Each piece is designed to be kept, not replaced.
We work slowly. Intentionally. With conviction.
And we are now inviting an Industrial Design Graduate into the atelier.
Not for output.
But for growth.
Who we are
Founded by Nelli and Juri Hegi, HEGI Design House is recognised internationally for pushing the boundaries of what furniture can be. Our work has been shortlisted and awarded, collected privately, and exhibited publicly. But more importantly: it resonates emotionally.
We design for people who collect meaning, not trends.
For clients who see furniture as identity.
For spaces that deserve presence.
We are small by design.
Detail-obsessed by nature.
And uncompromising by principle.
The role
You’ll work directly with the founder and creative director, inside the creative process — not around it.
You’ll see ideas in their rawest form.
You’ll help shape them.
You’ll learn how something emotional becomes something physical.
This is not corporate product development.
This is atelier-level design practice.
You will be mentored. Challenged. Trusted.
And expected to care deeply.
What you’ll actually do
Concept & Creative Development
- Support early concept exploration, sketching and ideation
- Develop 3D models and visual studies
- Contribute to moodboards, material stories, and collection narratives
- Learn how design language evolves across a body of work
Technical Design & Detail
- Create precise 3D models and high-quality renders
- Produce technical drawings for fabricators and makers
- Support research into materials, finishes, joinery and construction
- Assist with prototyping, sampling, refinement and iteration
Craft & Production
- Work closely with external makers, upholsterers and metal fabricators
- Participate in quality control for prototypes and final pieces
- Learn how collectible design moves from idea → object → collector
Brand & Experience
- Ensure every piece aligns with HEGI’s design DNA
- Support presentation material for galleries, collectors and exhibitions
- Occasionally assist with shoots, installations and launches
You’ll see the full picture — not just your corner of the task.
Who this is for
This role is for someone who:
- Is a recent Industrial Design graduate (or within 1–2 years)
- Has strong technical foundations and cares deeply about precision
- Is confident in Rhino / Fusion / SolidWorks + Adobe suite
- Notices proportions instinctively
- Is drawn to materiality, craftsmanship and object culture
- Has taste (and is developing it consciously)
- Is calm, organised, curious and thoughtful
- Is more interested in becoming a great designer than having a flashy job title
Your portfolio matters.
Not because it’s perfect —
but because it shows intention, sensitivity, and thinking.
What we offer
- Direct mentorship from the founder and creative director
- Real involvement in real work (no busywork, no pretending)
- Exposure to galleries, collectors, exhibitions and international platforms
- A hybrid, flexible structure
- A small team where your contribution actually matters
- A culture that values depth, honesty and creative integrity
- The opportunity to grow alongside a design house in motion
This is a long-game role.
For someone who wants to evolve seriously.
